Description: This paper, presented at the 2001 Physics Education Research Conference, discusses a modified version of the Force Concept Inventory (FCI), which was created using female and daily-life contexts instead of the male and school-oriented contexts in the original. Both modified and original versions were administered to university students in an algebra-based general physics course. The researchers explain differences among responses of males and females to both versions.
