Title: University of California-Davis-Department of Entomology: Background Information on the Biology of Ticks
Url: http://entomology.ucdavis.edu/Faculty/Robert_B_Kimsey/Kimsey_Research/...
Creator: Vredevoe, Larisa
Publisher: University of California, Davis
Description: Dr. Larisa Vredevoe, professor at the University of Californai, Davis' Department of Entomology, established this site to explore the differences between the two main families of ticks: Ixodidae (hard ticks), and Argasidae (soft ticks). An image comparison of the two types of ticks allows users to observe some of the visual differences. A detailed description of the families of both hard and soft ticks and their biology are given here on the site. The lifecycles of hard ticks are also presented (the soft tick's lifecycle is not distinguishable, so it is not described here). Click on the link at the bottom of the page to view "Commonly Encountered Ticks in California" and see images and facts about a variety of ticks that feed on livestock, pets and humans.
