Description: Interactivate, Shodor's "set of free, online courseware for exploration in science and mathematics" presents this activity to teach students the geometry concept of tessellation. The java-based activity allows students to create their own tessellations "by deforming a triangle, rectangle or hexagon to form a polygon that tiles the plane." In the "Learner" tab, users can find basic information about what a tessellation is along with associated discussions, worksheets, and lessons from Shodor. The activity itself allows students to create a tessellation and print it, making it perfect for a homework activity. There is a detailed help section for using the application, and the "Instructor" tab features curriculum context and resources.
