Title: Starting Point: Teaching Entry Level Geoscience
Url: https://serc.carleton.edu/introgeo/index.html
Publisher: Carleton College (Northfield, Minn.)
Description: Starting Point, presented by the Science Education Research Center at Carleton College, is designed for faculty and graduate students who teach undergraduate entry-level geoscience courses. Each section "describes a teaching method, why/when it is useful, how it can be implemented, and a set of examples spanning the Earth system that can be used in your class." Here, visitors will find information about incorporating various teaching methods, such as role playing, teaching with geographic information systems, cooperative learning, and Socratic questioning. There are also a number of lesson examples which incorporate these methods. Topics for these lessons include the solar system, the atmosphere, climate, and earth history. Starting Point also encourages educators to submit their own teaching lessons that incorporate these methods to the collection.
