Description: This gateway provides access to United States Geological Survey (USGS) studies of coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean, especially in the Hawaiian Islands where efforts are are focused on mapping, monitoring, remote sensing, sediment transport studies, and collection of tide, wave, and current data from remote stations. Materials include basic facts about coral reefs, an overview of the risks and threats to reefs, news items, and links to publications and other related organizations. Separate pages describe the individual projects, including mapping of the reefs, efforts to monitor changes on the reefs (the Coral Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (CRAMP)), and studies of sedimentation and sediment transport. There is also an interactive map showing the locations of the study areas.
