Title: Visual Rhetoric for Blogs
Url: https://mcli.maricopa.edu/dvl/modules/blogs
Creator: Brooks, Janet
Publisher: Maricopa County Community College District
Description: From the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction at Maricopa Community College and Janet Brooks of Glendale Community College, this page presents information about blogs and blogging in relation to digital visual literacy (DVL), the "set of skills that enable students to function in an increasingly digital and visual workplace." In this module, visitors will find an instructors' guide, a PowerPoint presentation, and a laboratory activity for students to complete. The presentation covers the basics of the blog, its history, why people blog, its relation to DVL, and guidelines for writing a compelling post, template selection, and social protocols. The lab activity instructs students to create their own blog using the guidelines from the presentation and reply to others' blogs. This is an excellent resource not only for courses or programs focused specifically on DVL, but for many other fields as workplace blogs become ubiquitous and creating a good-looking and well-written blog is a skill that benefits everyone.
