Description: This website operated by Kenyon College contains brief descriptive information regarding the ecology, taxonomy, genome structure, cell structure and metabolism and significance of Sulfolobales, a thermophilic acidophile. Sulfolobales grow in terrestrial volcanic hot springs with optimum growth occurring at pH 2-3 and a temperature of 75-80 degrees C. Several photographs of Solfolobales and their environment are provided. The site also contains links to further information concerning microbial taxonomy and descriptions.
