Description: The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) has compiled a collection of mathematics resources related to various subjects and disciplines. “Math Across the Community College Curriculum” is the title of the collection, which includes great math resources and applications for educators and students alike. In this particular resource, concepts from algebra, geology and economics are intertwined to create two dynamic activities for students. The projects, created by Mary Dowse, Tom Gruszka, and George Muncrief of Western New Mexico University, include both general learning objectives and subject specific objectives for what students will learn through the completion of the activities. The first activity focuses on the mathematics of economics, and the second activity focuses on geology and graphing. These activities can be easily adapted for use in the classroom, and are also useful for students who are looking for extra practice with these concepts.
