Url: https://path.upmc.edu/cases/case220.html
Creator: Dacic, Sanja
Publisher: University of Pittsburgh. Dept. of Pathology
Description: This is a case study presented by the University of Pittsburgh Department of Pathology, which examines " a 46-year-old HIV-positive man with a history of substance abuse who presented with a destructive palate lesion that eroded into nasal cavity and maxillary sinus." Visitors are given microscopic description, including images, as well as immunohistochemistry and are given the opportunity to diagnose the patient. A "Final Diagnosis" section provides a discussion of the findings as well as references. This is an excellent resource for students in the health sciences to familiarize themselves with using patient history and laboratory results to diagnose disease. It is also a helpful site for educators to use to introduce or test student learning in hematopathology.
