Description: Lyme disease is the "most frequently reported vector-borne disease in the United States." The bacteria that causes Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of the blacklegged tick, also commonly known as a deer tick. The University of Florida's Department of Entomology and Nematology presents these brief information sections on the deer tick (Ixodes dammini) as part of its Featured Creatures series. A description and images of the ticks and their lifecycle are included on the site, along with brief sections on their medical significance, surveillance tactics, and management efforts.
