Description: Chemistry has applications in many diverse fields from astronomy to zoology. With new applications emerging, it is the job of Chemical and Engineering News (CEN), a publication of the American Chemical Society, to report the breadth of activity in chemistry. This radio broadcast features an interview with the editor of CEN, Madeleine Jacobs, who discusses the CEN magazine and its handling of potentially controversial issues such as global warming; how chemistry has become increasingly interdisciplinary; the frontiers of chemistry, such as in nanotechnology; and the often negative public image of chemistry as solely toxic. The interview with Jacobs begins at 11 minutes and 50 seconds into the audio file; the interview is 14 minutes and 30 seconds in length.
