Description: The introductory lecture course for graduate-level analytical chemistry is commonly understood to require students to be broadly aware of analytical tools, current problems, and methods for linking problems and measurements. This article describes an active learning approach to this course, using review articles to focus discussion and reveal gaps in student knowledge. Students give most of the course's lectures, with grades based on lectures, exams, and a term paper.
