Title: Atoms and Light Energy
Url: https://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/educators/lessons/xray_spectra/backgroun...
Publisher: Goddard Space Flight Center
Description: At this site students are reminded that the study of atoms and their characteristics overlap several different sciences and that chemists, physicists, and astronomers all must understand the microscopic scale at which much of the universe functions in order to see the bigger picture. Students are also reminded of the structure of the atom and the meaning of the terms atom, element, atomic mass, atomic number, and isotope. The Bohr Model is used to review the energy levels, ground state, excited state and ionization. Absorption and emission along with the resulting energies are covered along with the quantum mechanical nature of atoms and photons. The site also includes three student exercises and links for more information.
