Title: Dynamic Digital Maps
Url: http://ddm.geo.umass.edu/index.html
Creator: Condit, Christopher D.
Publisher: University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dept. of Geosciences
Description: A Dynamic Digital Map (DDM) is a stand-alone program that displays and links maps, images, movies, data and text, such as map explanations and field trip guides. DDMs appear as thematic maps containing camera icons and map symbols that link images, movies and text or analytical data related to the mapped locations. DDM content, and access to it, is summarized by a searchable list of images, maps, or articles. DDMs are web-enabled and browser independent and are made using the cross-platform Revolution programming environment in the form of a 'template', an open source program into which the user can insert metadata (mostly file names) that enable the program to open existing maps, images, figures and movies from an organization of directories. The site features an automated tour on how to use DDMs, a link to download the template source code, and links to tutorials and example DDMs.
