Description: The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History features eleven exhibit halls, focusing on regional natural history, including birds, insects, mammals, marine life, paleontology, Native Americans and the Chumash Indians. The Museum also has a life-size Blue Whale skeleton, a planetarium, and special programs featuring lecturers and films. The Lizard Lounge features live reptiles and amphibians, and the Sea Center, located on Stearns Wharf, offers a window on the Santa Barbara Channel, numerous marine exhibits and aquaria. Research interests at the Museum include anthropology, entomology, vertebrate zoology, and a DNA lab. The collections held by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History are organized within the staffed departments of Anthropology, Invertebrate Zoology, Vertebrate Zoology, Museum Library and Archives and the Natural History Art Gallery. In addition there are holdings in mineralogy, regional geology and paleontology. There are also online curriculum guides for download.
