Url: https://people.rit.edu/svfsps/perc2001/Harper.doc
Creator: Harper, Kathleen Andre
Publisher: Rochester Institute of Technology. Center for Imaging Science
Description: This research paper, presented at the 2001 Physics Education Research Conference, discusses an experiment in which expert and novice participants completed a task either completing a mechanics problem (novices) or evaluating the answer to the problem (experts). The results indicated that instructors were more likely to make specific criticisms if the students spoke in generalities. Additional evidence indicates that novice problem solving knowledge consists of both conscious and tacit pieces.
