Description: This article, created by B. Dudley of Keele University, describes how an environmental science class became involved in a study to confirm the hypothesis that weeds are distributed at random in well established lawns. Stating the goal of this lesson, the author says, "Out of doors biology is a fine source of data but it is difficult to recognize which of the many possible studies will be worthwhile, rewarding and manageable, especially for those who are inexperienced. One such study is described here and its results are presented and analyzed." This is a great lesson plan for those in a non-mathematics classroom setting. It shows the interdisciplinary nature of statistics, in this case, applied to biology.
