The interdisciplinary lesson uses elements from the short story The Devil and Daniel Webster by Stephen Vincent Benet. A mathematical game has been created from the example of the story. A worksheet for the game is provided. The lesson will help students to use recursive or iterative forms to represent relationships, approximate and interpret rates of change from numerical data and draw reasonable conclusions about a situation being modeled. The material is intended for grades 9-12 and should require 1 class period to complete.
