Description: The Exploratorium is a world-renowned exhibit facility and provides a plethora of resources for teachers, the public, and the Earth science education community. One of the first science museums to go online, The Exploratorium’s website contains over eighteen thousand web pages exploring hundreds of different topics. The website features an online digital library, Educator Newsletter, Hands-On Activities, and Science Snacks as well as providing instructions for building classroom versions of Exploratorium exhibits. Webcasts include live video chats with the cosmologists building the South Pole Telescope, lectures on global warming, conversations with climate scientists, as well as a searchable collection of other webcasts. Professional development opportunities for teachers include the Teacher Institute for middle and high school teachers. Additionally, the Institute for Inquiry provides a variety of workshops, forums, and resources to support an international community of scientists and educators dedicated to developing innovation and leadership in inquiry-based science education, and the Center for Informal Learning and Schools, an NSF funded program of research, scholarship, and leadership in the arena of informal learning and the relationship of informal science institutions and schools.
