The One-Dimensional Heat Equation

Lang Moore, Duke University

with the assistance of
Jer-Chin Chuang, Furman University

Purpose: To study the symbolic form and graphical representation of the approximate solutions of the one-dimensional heat equation with various boundary and initial conditions

Prerequisite: It is recommended that the user work through the module Introduction to the One-Dimensional Heat Equation before starting this module. In addition, the user needs to be familiar with the construction of the approximate solutions to the boundary/initial value problems for the heat equation obtained by separating the variables and expanding the initial condition in a Fourier sine series.
