Title: Creating and Teaching a Web GIS Institute
Url: http://edcommunity.esri.com/arclessons/lesson.cfm?id=535
Publisher: Environmental Systems Research Institute (Redlands, Calif.)
Description: From the site: "This document was created for a 3-day Web GIS Institute for Educators. It is provided as a model and source of ideas for others conducting Web GIS institutes for educators and students. The goal of the institute is to equip the attendees with the skills needed to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technologies in their educational institution, with a particular emphasis on WebGIS, as connected to the Oklahoma Social Studies standards. Participants will be given a foundation in spatial thinking, spatial analysis, and a variety of activities in the field and in the laboratory across several disciplines to give them the confidence and skills necessary to apply these technologies to their own program, grade levels, and content areas. Participants will be connected to each other and the larger community so that they can continue in their GIS journey after the workshop concludes."
The material is available for download in ZIP format, and ArcGIS software is required to fully participate in the activities described.
